What is an SMS and what does it stand for?
SMS stands for Short Message Service. SMS is a service for sending messages to mobile phones.
Who can I send a text message to?
You can send messages from anywhere in the world to most US and Canadian mobile phone numbers.
The Recipient phone number must be a valid US or Canada 10 digit cellular number.
The Senders phone number must also be a 10 digit number, but can be a home,cell or any other number.
Sending to more countries will be enabled soon.

811.com currently supports all major US and Canadian Carriers including Sprint Pcs, Nextel, Verizon, Tmobile, Cingular, AT&T, Us Cellular, Alltel, Fido, Telus, Rogers, Bell Mobility, Suncom, Dobson, Cellular One & MetroPCS.

Usage of 811.com and all its services is always free.

The picture is a security code that needs to be inserted manually into the code box (this security measure prevents mass messaging by spammers, robots, hackers etc.)

When your message is being sent, it's just passing through our servers without leaving any info behind. No data is being collected or stored. We do not view,control or copy any information.

How do I send a text message?
1. Click on Send Text
2. Insert 10 digit phone number in appropriate boxes.
3. Write desired message in Message Box.
4. Insert Security Code into appropriate Field.
5. Click on Send.

How do I send a picture?
1. Click on Send Pictures
2. Insert 10 digit phone number in appropriate boxes.
3. Click on "Browse".
4. Select desired picture to send (Make sure it is a Jpeg or Gif file with a max size of 2Mb)
5. Insert Security Code into appropriate Field.
6. Click on Send.
The picture will be sent to the recipient's phone number
and will be resized to the optimal recipient phone specifications.
How do I send a ringtone?
1. Click on Send Ringtones
2. Listen to as many ringtones by clicking on "Another Ringtone" button till you find the one you'd like to send.
3. Click on "Send To Cell".
4. The Ringtone will be automatically inserted into the message.
5. Insert 10 digit phone number in appropriate boxes.
6. Insert Security Code into appropriate Field.
7. Click on Send.
The ringtone will be sent to the recipient's phone number
How do I send an audio file?
1. Click on Send Audio
2. Insert 10 digit phone number in appropriate boxes.
3. Click on "Browse".
4. Select desired audio file to send (Make sure it is a Mp3 or M4a file with a max size of 5Mb)
5. Select Beginning time of audio file and Length
6. Insert Security Code into appropriate Field.
7. Click on Send.
Your audio file will be sent to the recipient's phone number

1. Click on Send Video
2. Insert 10 digit phone number in appropriate boxes.
3. Click on "Browse".
4. Select desired video to send (Make sure it is a AVI, MPEG or MOV file with a max size of 10Mb)
5. Insert Security Code into appropriate Field.
6. Click on Send.
The video will be sent to the recipient's phone number
How do I send a joke, horoscope etc?
1. Click on Send Joke/Horoscope or selected content
2. Read additional Jokes/Horoscopes or selected content by clicking on "Another" button till you find the one you'd like to send.
3. Click on "811 this".
4. The Joke/Horoscope or selected content will be automatically inserted into the desired form by clicking on Email or SMS.
5. Insert 10 digit phone number in appropriate boxes.
6. Insert Security Code into appropriate Field.
7. Click on Send.
The Joke/Horoscope or selected content will be sent to the recipient's phone number.
What size and type pictures can I send?
You can send any Gif or Jpeg Picture with a max size of 2Mb.
What size and type audio files can I send?
You can send any Mp3 or M4a audio file with a max size of 5Mb.
What size and type videos can I send?
You can send any AVI / MPEG / MOV Video with a max size of 10Mb.
How do I use "My 811" phone book?
1. Click on "Phone Book".
2. Add as many contacts as desired by clicking on "Add Contact".
3. Click on Send Text, Images, Audio or Video button on your 811 and click on "Phone Book".
4. Select contact name. The name once selected will appear highlighted.
5. Click on "Send to Form".
The desired number will be automatically inserted into your sending form.
How do I get "My 811"?
1. Click on "Get My Free 811". This will take you to the "My 811" Download Page.
2. Read and understand Terms and Conditions. Click the checkbox to agree.
3. Insert the security code in appropriate box and click on "Download "My 811"". A window will appear.
4. Click on "Run" and the "My 811" will be installed.
A browser window will open and a successful installation message will appear. Your 811 should show on your browser.

How can I prevent 811 text messages from being sent to my cellular?
You can either call your carrier and have them opt out your phone number or in most newer phones, go to options menu and restrict incoming messages.
